What happens on the day
Have you always wondered what it would be like to work at a zoo? During this interactive encounter, you’ll fill the shoes of a real-life zookeeper and learn how to care for some of Africa’s big cats!
This 45-minute encounter takes place at the Oglebay Good Zoo. For over 40 years, this incredible zoo has dedicated itself to conservation, education, animal welfare, and rehabilitation. It’s also the only institution in West Virginia accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Animal encounters are a crucial form of animal enrichment that boost curiosity while preventing boredom and stress.
Your wild adventure begins when you meet up with an animal care professional. You’ll follow them behind the scenes to the cheetah habitat. Featuring incredibly long legs, cheetahs are the world’s fastest land animal and can reach speeds of up to 70 mph. Observe this incredible animal up close and discover what makes these fascinating felines unique! You’ll also learn about cheetah conservation and how the zoo is doing their part to ensure their survival.
You’ll feel like a real-life zookeeper as you feed, train, and help the care team create animal enrichment. For safety reasons, you will not enter the animal’s habitat. Instead, you’ll interact with the cheetah from a protected space.

Will I go inside the cheetah enclosure?
No. For safety reasons, you will not be allowed to go inside the enclosure. Instead, you'll feed and interact with the cheetah from a protected area.
Can I take pictures?
Yes, as long as you maintain a safe distance from the cheetah.
