What happens on the day
Learn the ropes of sailing in a safe and controlled environment with expert instruction on beautiful Lake Union. Perfect for beginners, this 2-hour introduction to sailing lesson covers all the basics and gives you a taste of what it’s like to sail the open seas.
Head to the dock, where you’ll meet your experienced USCG certified captain. Start off with a lesson on the basics of safety and sailing theory then hop aboard and set sail.
As you cruise across a scenic stretch of Lake Union on board a small and exciting performance boat, you’ll learn to tack, jibe and steer. The small class size means everyone will have the chance to pull lines, trim sails and pilot the boat. With your captain by your side to answer any questions, you’ll leave this Introduction to Sailing Lesson confident in your abilities and excited to set sail again!

Are there age restrictions for the lesson?
No, but anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
What should I wear?
Dress in layers of comfortable clothing. If in doubt bring additional warm clothing. Extra hats, gloves, jackets, blankets, and rain gear can be provided the day of your experience.
What if there is no wind?
While there is usually wind on Lake Union and the slightest breeze is enough to move a sailboat, our partners do have electric motors onboard if they need to return to the shore without needing wind power.

This experience was given to me by my wife as a birthday present, and it was without question one of the best presents I have ever gotten in my life. The instructor was kind, patient, encouraging, competent, and clearly knowledgeable. He was easy to talk with and answered all my questions. I was able to actually get the feel of sailing and it was truly thrilling! I highly recommend anyone and everyone to check this out. It will be well worth your time and money!
