The name "Milwaukee" comes from the Algonquian word millioke, meaning "good", "beautiful" and "pleasant land." And the city certainly lives up to its name with stunning views of the expansive Lake Michigan. But the thing Milwaukee is most recognized for is being the best place to find great beer and cheese.
On this approximately 3-hour walking culinary tour, you will taste and see what Milwaukee’s iconic foods are really all about. You’ll try a local staple – a beer battered fish fry, Wisconsin’s iconic fried cheese curds, a variety of locally-made sausages paired with local craft beer, a sampling of delicious cheeses, and a rich German chocolate cake to wrap it all up.
Along the way, your passionate local guide will lead you through the city’s central neighborhoods along the sweeping Riverwalk and down Old World Third Street. You’ll get insight into the Germanic influences from the 19th century, take in a bird’s eye view of the bustling Public Market, and get access to a fun and memorable secret spot that needs a password to enter. We had a terrific time, good company and our guide was exceptional, very knowledgeable on Milwaukee's history
We booked our tour in 2020. There were no tours available to take in Milwaukee until 2023. Nevertheless Virgin bumped up the price by $28 because it was in their contract to be able to do that. When the tour was finally booked my wife took off a day from work only to have the tour company cancel the tour because the guide was sick. More unexpected cost to us. The tour was ok. Decent spots to stop with enough to eat. I couldn’t hear most of what the guide said during the walk. She may consider stopping the group to give historical information so everyone can hear.
