What happens on the day
Native to the arid grasslands of Kenya and Ethiopia, Grevy’s zebras are the largest species of zebra and are recognized by their thin pinstripe pattern, tall stature, and large donkey-like ears. See one of these magnificent creatures up close during this once-in-a-lifetime encounter at the Oglebay Good Zoo!
Located in Wheeling, West Virginia, The Oglebay Good Zoo is home to 68 species of animals and is a part of 23 conservation breeding programs. This incredible zoo puts animal welfare first and is the only institution in West Virginia accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Encounters like this one play a vital role in animal welfare by boosting the animal’s curiosity, preventing boredom, and minimizing stress!
Your 45-minute encounter begins at the main entrance where you’ll meet one of the zoo’s passionate zebra care professionals. You’ll feel like a real-life zookeeper as you follow them behind the scenes and into the Grevy's zebra habitat. Watch as these amazing striped animals trot around their environment and bask in the sun.
While learning fascinating facts about these zebras, you’ll also get the unique opportunity to feed and train them! You’ll see firsthand how the team uses high-fiber leaf-eater biscuits to positively reinforce certain behaviors.
