What happens on the day
Known for their bright yellow eyes and fluffy black and white fur, ruffed lemurs are only found in Madagascar and are critically endangered. During this once-in-a-lifetime encounter, you’ll get to hang out with Fresca and Magellen, the Oglebay Good Zoo’s two resident black and white ruffed lemurs!
Located in Wheeling, West Virginia, The Oglebay Good Zoo is home to 68 species of animals and is a part of 23 conservation breeding programs. This incredible zoo puts animal welfare first and is the only institution in West Virginia accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Encounters like this one play a vital role in animal welfare by boosting the animal’s curiosity, preventing boredom, and minimizing stress!
Your 45-minute encounter begins when you meet one of the zoo’s passionate lemur keepers at the zoo’s main entrance. You’ll follow them behind the scenes before stepping inside the ruffed lemur habitat. Featuring ropes, platforms, and even fire hose strips, watch as these playful primates explore their environment.
You’ll feel like a real-life zookeeper as you feed and engage with both ruffed lemurs. Throughout your experience, you’ll learn about ruffed lemurs, global conservation efforts, and more. Before waving goodbye to your new playful pals, don’t forget to snap a few photos!
