During this once-in-a-lifetime encounter, you’ll feel like you’ve just been transported to Australia’s outback! Meet a mob of red kangaroos and discover what it takes to care for these curious critters.
Your 45-minute encounter takes place at the Oglebay Good Zoo. Located in Wheeling, West Virginia, this incredible zoo is home to 68 species of animals and is a part of 23 conservation breeding programs. The zoo takes pride in putting animal welfare first and is the only institution in West Virginia accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Encounters like this one play a vital role in animal welfare by boosting the animal’s curiosity, preventing boredom, and minimizing stress!
Kick off your wild day at the zoo’s main entrance. Here, you’ll meet one of the zoo’s passionate animal care professionals. You’ll feel like a real-life zookeeper as you follow them behind the scenes and into the red kangaroo habitat. Featuring hide structures, play pieces, and even punching bags, this unique environment was designed with animal enrichment in mind.
While learning fascinating facts about red kangaroos, you’ll also get the unique opportunity to feed them! Watch as your new fuzzy friends chow down on grapes, bananas, carrots, and more. If you’re lucky, one the kangaroos may even approach you and give your shoe a curious sniff!
