Native to southern and central Africa, Cape Porcupines are known for their robust build and long, white quills. During this once-in-a-lifetime animal encounter, you’ll get the unique opportunity to meet these curious critters!
Your 30-minute animal encounter takes place at the Oglebay Good Zoo. Located in Wheeling, West Virginia, this incredible zoo is passionate about conservation, rehabilitation, and education. The team also strives to provide high-quality welfare for all of the zoo’s animals. Encounters play a vital role in animal welfare by boosting the animal’s curiosity, preventing boredom, and minimizing stress.
Beginning at the zoo’s main entrance, you’ll meet up with an animal care professional. They’ll take you behind the scenes and into the Cape Porcupine habitat! Watch as these quirky critters waddle through their environment and learn what makes them unique. If you’re lucky, one of the porcupines might even approach you and give your shoe a curious sniff. Don’t worry though, these animals are docile and only use their quills when they feel threatened.
