What happens on the day
Located approximately 50 miles northwest of Santa Fe, Bandelier National Monument is home to some of the world’s most incredible cliff dwellings.
Your amazing day of hiking and sightseeing will begin when you meet up with your professional guide near the center of Santa Fe. While driving to the monument, your guide will point out the region’s iconic volcanic adobe rock, known as ‘tuff’, that the Pueblo Native Americans used to construct their cliffside homes.
First, stop in at the Tsankawi Prehistoric Sites and hear the story of the ancient Tewa People. Follow ancient pathways as you walk 1.5 miles past low stone walls, petroglyphs, and more. You’ll even get the opportunity to climb 3 ladders into the cliff dwellings themselves. Before embarking on your next hike, enjoy a picnic lunch beneath a shade of cottonwood trees.
Beginning at the Bandelier Visitor Center, you’ll be absolutely awe-struck as you stroll past the village of Tyuonyi. Make your way up into the cliff walled houses and experience what life was like living in the cliffs. Try to decipher the carved petroglyphs around the ancient longhouse before descending back down to the Visitor Center.

What can I expect on this tour?

How long is the drive from Santa Fe to Bandelier?
Bandelier National Monument is approximately 50 miles northwest of Santa Fe. You can expect the drive to be about 1 hour each direction.
How hard are the hikes?
You will complete two hikes that are easy to moderate in difficulty. Your first hike is 1.5 miles round trip and includes some climbing and narrow places in between rocks. You will also climb 3 ladders along the trail. Your second hike is approximately 1.25 miles round trip is involves hiking along a paved trail with inclines on narrow stairs up to experience the cliff dwellings.

What should I wear?
Wear closed toe shoes with good grip, preferably hiking shoes. Dress in light layers and bring a jacket in case of cooler temperatures. Wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and a bring a hat to protect from the sun.

Once you have received a booking confirmation, cancellations and rescheduling are allowed up to 14 days prior to the experience. Failure to appear on your booked date or to cancel and reschedule at least 14 days prior to your booked date will result in the loss of the value of your experience. In the event that your tour is cancelled due to inclement weather, you will be able to reschedule directly with the experience provider.
