A few days before our scheduled tour, I received an affable and enthusiastic call from the guide, Daniel Daly, confirming our trip, clarifying a few points, and notifying me of a delay in the tour start because of a downtown-clogging funeral scheduled for the same day. This was the first indication that we were in for a hands-on and curated trip, as opposed to a check-the-boxes, drone-the-history, get-it-over-with kind of experience. Daniel loves his job, and weaves a story of the history of the town and the island like a wild and unpredictable fireside tale. He's so excited to talk about the basketball-tall natives (do not mess with those fingernail women) and the pirate punch (go ahead, try to finish three) and the land changing hands (so many flags, so many battles) and the wily and razor-sharp Gregor MacGregor (his legacy, mini-golf and booze). Daniel asked our small group for permission to go a little longer—“we can sneak in a little architecture”—and if you get this offer, take it, because you won’t want the tour to end. My wife and I were captivated from start to finish, and we will be back to take this tour again. Love, love, love!

I arrived at the meeting spot to be told that this is a scam, the service provider never got paid by Virgin and I never received the service. I took the time and effort to go all the way to Amelia Island for nothing.
