What happens on the day
Sonoma County’s year-round fair weather and long stretches of roadside wineries make it an ideal place to explore by bicycle. On this wine and bike group tour, you’ll pedal down rural country lanes surrounded by charming California wine country.
Kick things off when you meet up with your local guide in historic downtown Healdsburg. Strap on your helmet as your guide gets you outfitted with a cross trail hybrid bike and gives you some quick tips on local biking and road etiquette. Then, set out down scenic rural lanes to your first tasting.
Pedal past sun-kissed vineyards lined with row after row of golden grapes that will soon become Healdsburg’s full-bodied zinfandels and crisp white wines. Cruise to 2 different boutique and family-run wineries.
Along the way, your guide will pick the perfect sun-soaked spot for a Sonoma-style picnic. Enjoy the views of rolling hills as you nosh on local products like flavorful pasta salad, organic fruits and vegetables, artisanal meats and cheeses, and freshly baked bread and cookies.

How long/far will we ride?
The tour will last about 5.5 hours and cover approximately 10-12 miles at a moderate pace with stops about every 5 miles. The route is mainly flat with a few rolling hills along the way.
Are there wine tasting fees and how much do they cost?
This tour tries to choose wineries that do not charge, but sometimes it is unavoidable. Wine tasting fees vary per person per winery. In most cases you can share a taste (one glass) with another member of your group and many wineries will reimburse your tasting fee if you make an additional purchase.
What types of bikes will we be using? What about clips?
This tour uses specialized cross trail hybrid bikes with upright handlebars for comfort. They come with a front bag to store your personal items. You can also choose from touring and road bikes, mountain bikes, cruisers and tandems. Please let Virgin Experience Gifts know at the time of booking if you would prefer to use one of these other bikes. There is a limited supply of clip-less pedals, or the provider can remove pedals so you can attach your own.
What food will be served for lunch? What about dietary restrictions?
The meal is a gourmet wine country style picnic. The menu varies due to what is in season locally, but examples of items served are: smoked fish; turkey breast or ham; pasta salad with sun dried tomatoes, pesto and artichoke hearts; tossed green salads with in-season vegetables; and local artisan cheeses. Please let Virgin Experience Gifts know of any dietary restrictions at the time of booking to see if special accommodations can be made.

You will visit up to 2 of the following wineries: Quivira, Martorana, Bella, Preston, Truett Hurst, Amista, Papa Pietro Perry, Kokomo, Dry Creek, and many others. In an effort to keep this tour fresh and exciting, this list is ever-evolving and is subject to change.

Cancellation Policy
Once you have received a booking confirmation, cancellations are allowed at least 72 hours prior with a cancellation fee per person or a reschedule with no additional fees. Failure to appear on your booked date or to cancel and reschedule at least 72 hours prior to your booked date will result in the loss of the value of your experience.
