Bioluminescent Kayak Adventure for 2 in Tomales Bay

The bioluminescent kayak was a special tour. The guides were very experienced and stepped everyone though the gear. Highly recommend.

The guides (Jay and Gavin) were quite knowledgeable about the area. They were very concerned with safety and everyone’s comfort and enjoyment. We were able to see seals, rays, a variety of birds, the Milky Way and a guest appearance by the starlink satellites as well as the promised bioluminescence.

We loved the evening bioluminescence kayaking tour with Outback Adventures! Jay and Kurt were excellent guides. They provided clear and precise instructions for putting on gear, paddling with the oar, and communicated lots of interesting information about Tomales Bay, Hog Island, wildlife and the bioluminescent plankton. Rowing for two miles was a great upper body workout. The gear that was provided was essential and definitely kept us warm and dry. And of course the bioluminescent nighttime show was magical. It was an experience I will never forget! Special thanks to Jay for leading an excellent tour of the Bay!

One of the best trips of my life. Not only did we love the trip but our guides also had a great time. The water was glowing! We could even see fish create their own streaks of light as they swam under us. Highly recommended

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this unique experience! Not only were our tour guides knowledgeable, they also had a great sense of humor. We had a great view of both the bioluminescence and the Milky Way, and by kayaking only a mile out, we were on a different continental plate!

The experience was amazing! We met at the site around 6:15 for the orientation/instructions and outback adventures provided us with all the gear to keep us warm and dry (wetsuits, paddling jackets, spray skirts, lifejackets with light). Masks were mandatory, and there were 6 kayaks in total (12 people) + 3 instructors in single kayaks. Set off around 7:15pm after it started to get dark. Instructors did a great job of keeping the group together and providing us with interesting information about where we were, bioluminescence, interesting geological features etc. They knew good places to take us see lots of it. Luckily for us, it was an amazingly clear night, so we could see the Milky Way above and the bioluminescence below. With all the layers we wore and the gear they provided, we were warm and comfortable enough to enjoy the night. Tip: Definitely wear light trousers/leggings that you can pull the wetsuit over - those things are REALLY snug and difficult to put on if you're wearing something bulky.

Outstanding experience on the bioluminescence tour. Friendly, knowledgeable, experienced guides. Clean gear in great condition. Impressive attention to safety (including strict Covid measures). We're not experienced kayakers and I was a little apprehensive about kayaking at night in full darkness but they made everything very easy and comforting. About 45 minutes on land getting trained, prepared and geared up, and about 3 hours on water enjoying the Marin County Bay at night, among pelicans, cormorants and the magical biolumninent plankton. The only negative is how quickly this tour sells out. I bought the certificate in January 2019 for my husband's birthday; we couldn't find dates available in 2019 and with Covid in 2020, didn't get a booking until August. That said, Cloud9 was outstanding throughout the process. When I reached out to ask about availability last year, they kept following up with me, and eventually let me know about the next opening, without prompting, so we could book the last 2 spots. Really appreciated the follow-through. Awesome customer service.

We had a wonderful time on our bioluminescence kayaking tour! Our guides, Oz and Jay, were helpful, informative, and very friendly. We had an unseasonably warm and clear night, and the bioluminescence was really cool; the stars were also INCREDIBLE. We could see the milky way and a ton of stars - it was amazing! We really enjoyed ourselves and hope to get the chance to do it again.

This experience was a gift from our kids, who know we love to kayak. We had an absolutely amazing time! The two guides were very knowledgeable and provided the necessary gear and good instruction on how to use it. They took care to make sure everyone was fitted properly in the kayaks and knew how to handle them before setting out. We had a great time on the water listening to the sounds of roosting cormorants and bugling elk as well as the awesome light show of the bioluminescence once it got dark!

The staff and the tour company was amazing. They provide you with additional, warm clothing and go over the basics of kayaking so you don't feel lost. The staff really prepped us and were by our side the entire time if we needed any help. I highly recommend this tour! In addition, we got really lucky - we not only saw very clear bioluminescence but the entire milky way right over us - it was magical!

Good guides and sparkling bioluminescence, it couldn't get any better!

Even though the conditions were a bit rough, the instructors decided to us out anyway as our group was eager to go and convinced them we could withstand the wind. It wasn't easy but it was such a rewarding experience once we finally got to see the luminescent bio. Our instructors were positive yet took necessary precautions, patient, informative, and all-around great facilitators to an experience of a lifetime.

From the moment we got to the launch area things were easily laid out. The tour guides were very clear with instructions and provided us with wet suits (which was helpful since we were unprepared for how cold it actually was). After about an hour of going over everything and getting everyone into their kayaks we got underway. The first half was more difficult than anticipated but once the sun went down it wasn't as choppy and it warmed up a bit after the fog rolled out.The bio experience itself was incredible and so much better than I expected. I was concerned because I hadn't seen any pictures online but I now understand why. Unless you have an amazing camera with the ability to capture long exposure that you are willing to take out onto the water don't even bother, because you will not be able to get a picture with your phone. There is something to be said for just enjoying the moment without the technology as well. The bioluminescence was incredible and well worth the paddle out to the cove. Guides were quite knowledgeable and friendly (even brought cookies).

What a wonderful tour. The guides were super friendly, knowledgable and ready to help anybody who was new to kayaking. Everybody showed up on time being well prepared and ready to go into the water with great equipment and new wetsuits. While another company cancelled their tour due to strong winds, our guides patiently waited until sunset for the wind to calm down -- which it eventually did allowing us to start the tour. The water ended up be very calm and the bioluminescence was just spectacular. Never thought it would be so bright and breathtaking. All round a fantastic experience. Highly recommend it!

Our guides (Oz and Jay/Jessie and Connor) were fantastic. They kept the group together, kept checking in on everyone in the dark, went over instructions, safety, gear, etc, and gave us tips on where to go and what to do to get the best experience with the bio. It was magical, fantastic, and highly recommended!

This was our first Cloud 9 Living experience, and it was amazing! Our guides were awesome! They were super-friendly and fun, paid close attention to safety, were extremely knowledgeable, and did I say fun? Yes! We would recommend this "sparkling" tour!

We were so pleased to have done this. It was a fun and interesting way to learn of this phenomenon; the night could not have been more perfect. The weather was cooperative and we had a beautiful view of the night sky, and the bioluminescent organisms were very responsive because the day had been very sunny. We appreciated being properly fitted for our gear and able to return it easily after the kayak trip.

Received this experience as a gift. Have never kayaked before. It was wonderful. I felt safe, and the guides were friendly, fun and knowledgeable. The water in Tomales Bay was calm and warm, so I felt comfortable the whole time I was in the water. The bioluminescence was awesome -- so glad I experienced this. We had a perfect night - warm weather, calm water and a terrific paddle. The guides were great and the bioluminescence was amazing.

A little disorganized at the beginning. Difficult to find group as they had no sign, and there were several other groups leaving at the same time. Guide, Oz, was excellent. Equipment was very good, and I especially liked the skirt which kept my feet and legs dry. Bio luminescence was magical.

Very cool to see the bioluminescence. Finding parking was a bit difficult. Instructors were laid back and cool.

Kayaking on the bay was great. The stars and moon were bright, so we didn't see much luminous but everything else made up for it. The guides were very experienced and good.

It was a really cool experience, the bio luminescence was like glitter in the water. I would have liked to stayed out in the water with the bio luminescence a little longer but overall it was a good experience.

Loved the experience and would recommend to everyone. Was hard to find our group at first, but once going the guides were excellent, helpful, and very knowledgeable. Oz and David made the experience enjoyable and carefree.

I have to say that my wife and I were disappointed with this experience. The guides were fine, but seeing the bioluminescence was a bit underwhelming. We thought we would see the bay glowing with light, but instead what you see is a brief sparkle when you disturb the surface of the water. It was interesting to see, but not worth the money or the nearly 4 hours we spent. We would not recommend this adventure.

The experience was good, the bioluminescence was okay. Our guides started off by saying no cameras which kinda ruined the fun of the experience. There was a wide range of kayaking experience which made it difficult as other kayaks would paddle into yours.
