What happens on the day
From lush boreal forests to salmon-filled rivers and snow-capped mountains, Alaska’s backcountry is a sight to behold! During this private hiking adventure, you’ll explore 2 different trails located in the picturesque Chugach State Park!
Your epic day begins with a convenient pick up from your Anchorage hotel or accommodation. You and your private group will meet your fun and experienced guide before being whisked off to the park in a comfortable vehicle. You’ll drive away from the city and into Alaska’s untouched wilderness!
Your first hike takes place near the Eagle River Nature Center. Here, you’ll hike through a dense boreal forest before winding along the Eagle River. See if you can spot any spawning salmon and admire gorgeous views of nearby valleys. If you’re lucky, you may even spot a moose chomping on willows or a bear hunting for fish. No matter who is out and about, your guide will share fascinating facts about the surrounding flora and fauna.
Next, journey to one of the park’s best waterfalls! At approximately 35-feet-tall, Barbara Falls can be reached by a short and relatively flat trail. Stand at the base of the falls, snap incredible photos, and fuel your hike back with complimentary snacks!

How hard is the hike?
You'll explore two different trails and hike approximately 5 miles. Both trails are rated as easy to moderate and include a 500-foot elevation gain. You should be able to walk at least 6 miles on flat pavement, or 5 miles of uneven rolling terrain over the course of 4 hours. You should also be able to balance well and feel comfortable walking in muddy and slippery conditions. Some parts of the trail are steep and hilly, placing additional stress on areas of the body not impacted by level terrain.
How long is the drive from Anchorage?
It takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes to drive from Anchorage to the trailhead.
Where does this experience take place?
You'll begin in Anchorage and drive to Chugach State Park where you'll hike to the picturesque Barbara Falls and along the Eagle River.
