Kick off your day with a convenient pick up in downtown Anchorage. Your expert guide will welcome you aboard a comfortable, climate-controlled vehicle before whisking you away to Chugach State Park.
Follow your guide on an easy, 2-mile round trip nature walk and learn about the natural wonders around you. Get an in-depth look at the salmon life cycle and discover how environmental and societal changes have impacted these colorful fish. If you’re lucky, you may even spot a massive brown bear, moose, or a variety of birds.
Depending on the season, you’ll either hike to the picturesque Barbara Falls or through the alpine tundra of the Glen Alps. No matter where you go, you’ll be surrounded by jaw-dropping beauty. During the early summer, wild geraniums, bluebells, and forget-me-nots dot the landscape. By the end of summer, these vibrant wildflowers are replaced by brilliant shades of red and yellow.

How hard is the hike?
The hike is 2 miles round trip and has an elevation gain of 200 feet. It is considered easy to moderate. You should be able to walk at least 3 miles on flat pavement, or 2 miles of uneven rolling terrain over the course of 2 hours. You should also be able to balance well and feel comfortable walking in muddy and slippery conditions. Some parts of the trail are steep and hilly, placing additional stress on areas of the body not impacted by level terrain.
How long is the drive from Anchorage?
It takes approximately 30 minutes to drive from Anchorage to the trailhead.

You'll begin in Anchorage and drive to Chugach State Park where you'll hike to the picturesque Barbara Falls.
