What happens on the day
From juicy raspberries and huckleberries to fresh mushrooms and fiddlehead ferns, the Alaskan wilderness is full of all sorts of tasty treats. During this 5-hour experience, you’ll learn how to forage, prepare, and cook a mouthwatering backcountry meal!
Your tasty day starts in Downtown Anchorage. Here, you’ll meet your fun and experienced guide before boarding a comfortable vehicle. Upon arrival in Chugach State Park, you’ll lace up your hiking boots and listen to a few wilderness safety tips. Then, it’s time to forage!
Following your guide, you’ll hike approximately 2 miles along a flat and well-marked trail. Along the way, you’ll search the brush for Alaska’s finest ingredients. Depending on the season, you may pick a variety of wild greens, edible wildflowers, fiddlehead ferns, fireweed shoots, mushrooms, berries, and so much more. Once everyone has picked an array of tasty goodies, you’ll take everything to a campsite and learn how to cook backcountry-style!
Using basic tools and equipment, you’ll discover how to transform your findings into a mouthwatering meal. Perhaps you’ll make a delicious pizza, wild green salad, or sautéed fireweed shoots. No matter what, you’ll finish off your meal with a scrumptious backcountry dessert!
