What happens on the day
Discover the Brooklyn Navy Yard on this exciting, exclusive walking tour and learn about the past, present and future of this historical landmark.
Founded in 1801, the Yard was once the nation’s premier naval shipyard, building, repairing, and outfitting vessels from the War of 1812 through the Cold War. For over 150 years, the Yard built some of America's most famous fighting ships from the USS Maine to the USS Missouri. Today, the Yard is a thriving industrial park supporting more than 10,000 jobs, and on this tour you'll learn about hundreds of manufacturing, creative, and technology businesses that call the Yard home today.
While exploring the vast 300 acre property, you will see examples of historic buildings repurposed for modern industry, explore the Yard’s museum and visitor center, and visit a working dry dock built in 1851 and still used for ship repair today. During this tour you will walk from place to place, so you can explore at almost every stop to look around and learn about this dynamic and historic site.

The bus tour of the Brooklyn Navy Yard was very interesting. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the actual tour, much more history, civil engineering, and subjects of local interest. He was an excellent speaker, and I could hear and understand every word he spoke. The historical photographs he showed us of the Navy Yard enhanced our views on the ground considerably. The starting point for the tour, Building 92, was a great destination in itself. It is a nicely done exhibit of the Navy Yard, past and present. I want to spend some more time there in the future.
The guide was very professional; she had a wealth of facts to give us, and her answers to our questions were very good.
