Lace up your walking shoes and get ready to experience mouthwatering pizzas from some of the country's most acclaimed pizzerias!
Your friendly and knowledgeable guide will help showcase the best pizza in New Haven while also teaching you about the rich history of the area. Beginning at the iconic Sally's Apizza, you'll savor a trio of delectable pies: a plain tomato and garlic pie, a mozzarella pie, and a tantalizing mozzarella, potato, onion, and rosemary pie.
From there, you'll cover 4 miles on foot, tasting incredible pies along the way. Step inside 3 more pizzerias and enjoy reserved seating and behind-the-scenes kitchen and oven viewing.
In total, you'll sample 12 different kinds of pizza. At the end of your tour, you'll even have the chance to vote for your favorite!

It’s a too-long story that involves our fitness trainer and a New Yorker article on WHY we would travel over three hours to New Haven Connecticut for a pizza crawl, but that’s what we did over the weekend. There’s even an organized tour by Taste of New Haven that walks with you to FOUR pizza places where you taste TWELVE different pies AND skip the lines. (Yes, at 3 of the 4 places there were lines to get in and apparently that happens every single day). Drinks - including a beer or wine - were also included! Our tour visited Sally's Apizza, Bar Pizza, Modern Apizza, and Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana. We had plain (looks like a tomato pie), we had mozzarella (say “mootz”), mashed potato and bacon, clam pie and sliced potato and rosemary. They were all very thin crusted with varying degrees of char on the bottom and crusts. My fave? The mootz at Modern. It was a fun day, lots of pizza (even leftovers!), lots of walking to burn it off, satisfaction in walking past the lines, and well worth the money. Our guide Peter was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Highly recommended if you’re in the area. They sell out so make your reservations with Taste of New Haven well in advance! Now, does New Haven rightly earn the title of “Pizza Capital of the US”, as was declared on the floors of Congress by a Connecticut lawmaker? I know that NY City folks are up in arms over the claim. Living within a few miles of a pretty decent pizza at Village Pizzeria & Ristorante in East Galway and having grown up with Vito and Nick's pizza on the south side of Chicago, I have to disagree. Even Agatucci's (Peoria IL) super thin crust cheese with added tiger sauce it right up there for me. Modern’s mootz was good, but I always crave a return visit to Vito and Nick’s for their great sausage pizza!!
Extremely knowledgeable! Equally a history tour of pizza, culture, and the city of New Haven. Food was delicious and drinks weren’t bad either.
